As a member of the Rancho Haven community, I have some questions and concerns about item 9.K.1 and object to it without the amendments listed below. The staff report accompanying this request is overly vague and overreaching. As far as I am aware the only volunteer fire vehicles owned by Washoe County are the Red Rock Volunteer Fire Department vehicles. The Red Rock volunteers have always been authorized to drive these vehicles. Other Truckee Meadows paid fire staff and volunteers have vehicles owned and insured by Truckee Meadows and should only need access to the Red Rock vehicles to transport them to and from standard industry testing, for training of Red Rock volunteer staff, and for working alongside Red Rock volunteer staff as needed to respond to incidents within our community. The Rancho Haven and Sierra Ranchos communities are remote and emergency response times for paid Truckee Meadows staff to reach our communities can easily be two to three times longer than average response times so leaving the Red Rock Volunteer fire department without vehicles would put the safety of our community at risk. For these reasons I propose te following amendments to item 9.K.1:
    • Truckee Meadows shall not leave the Red Rock Volunteer Fire Department without county vehicles to respond to Rancho Haven and Sierra Rancho community emergencies.
    • Truckee Meadows should not use the county vehicles for out-of-district emergencies without Red Rock Volunteers on board.
    • Truckee Meadows must provide regular training for all Volunteers including training to qualify to drive and operate the county vehicles.
Thank you in advance for adding the proposed ammendments to protect the safety of our community.
