Library funding needs to be restored. We have a growing community with a vibrant library system. Please do not let the libraries regress to limited hours and loss of employees and loss of materials/technology funding. Analyze the use data and make wise decisions to support a more educated community.
Please consider fully funding the Washoe County Library system. There are so few places to exist for free, that can provide so many services to such a wide swath of the community - from kids books to internet access for job applications, our libraries are a vital community resource. Thank you!
The Washoe County Library System provides numerous essential resources and benefits to our community. I’m grateful to have been able to utilize the free resources provided by the library throughout my life—including story times and summer reading programs while I was growing up; providing a safe place to study and research throughout high school, college, and beyond; and has aided in building my small business.
It is concerning that due to the confusing wording of the WC-1 ballot question, many voters, perhaps unknowingly, voted against renewing tax funding for our local libraries. I am requesting that the Washoe County Library System continues to receive funding in order to thrive and sustain invaluable community resources for all.
The libraries, a source of joy and enrichment for all of the public, lost at the ballot box this November. A lot of voters said that they were confused by the wording of WC-1, and there was misleading information about it that suggested it was an increase in taxes when that simply wasn't true.
Please consider a measure to add those funds back to the library system. The library’s $17 million annual budget will be reduced by about a third, resulting in layoffs, fewer services, and fewer open hours to the public. The libraries provide so much. They aid seniors with homebound delivery services, technology classes, and community friendly spaces where they can make arts and crafts. Children rely on the libraries for free books, story times, and other early literacy efforts. We are a space where the community comes together. We need places where our community is one, please fund the libraries to fill that gap so that they can make that mission happen.
The library is the soul of our community that provides a welcoming environment to any and all. I am disappointed that an entity that is that beloved, had a measure that did not pass during the recent election. I am asking the Commission to continue to support our library and ensure they can continue to support this community with funding.
I am a criminalized victim of domestic violence and rape. I reported the predator who abused me last November, but instead of pursuing charges against the perpetrator, I have been made into the suspect in my own report. Exculpatory evidence was withheld in order to charge me with this crime, yet still the case has not been dismissed. Every step of the way, people in positions of authority have chosen to avoid me, lie to me, or say they can't get involved. I have plenty of direct, actionable evidence of not only the abuse and rape I was subjected to, but the continued failures of every agency I have contacted who are in positions to protect victims like me. What do you plan to do to address these allegations of misconduct among the local police departments and courts? I have even reached out to state level officials who will not step up. My constitutional rights have been repeatedly violated, after I myself was violated physically, emotionally, and sexually by a dangerous predator. The community is at risk as long as he is free, and tax dollars are being wasted in order to punish me for doing what was right and reporting a dangerous man. He has a long history of this type of abuse, yet through his connection to police, he avoids any legal accountability. I am not the only victim of this misconduct - how will it be addressed? We deserve to feel protected by people in positions of authority, not further abused and humiliated by them. A full INDEPENDENT audit of all local police departments (and the non profits police interact with, as Crisis Services of Nevada is continuing to employ the sexual assault advocate who is quoted repeatedly agreeing with false statements in my police report, which I can prove) should uncover the issues so action can be taken to correct this disturbing behavior. The board of directors of CSSNV is not concerned. Who will step up for victims? This state has a huge problem with domestic violence and I'm finding no one in this state wants to stand up and say this is wrong. My case did not follow protocol or federal laws designed to protect my rights. Who will finally intervene and push for an independent audit? There must be multiple people benefitting from this disturbing behavior.
