As someone who has lived in Washoe County my entire life, I’ve always loved our library system. It’s more than just a place to check out books—it’s a cornerstone of our community, helping people in ways that truly matter.
This year, the library launched programs that make a real impact. The Libraries with Heart program offers free blood pressure kits, helping people stay on top of their health. The Downtown Reno Library now partners with the Reno Housing Authority to provide resources like housing applications and rent payment kiosks. During recent fires, several branches served as evacuation centers, giving people a safe place when they needed it most.
The library has also expanded legal services with new kiosks and started Spanish-language tech classes, ensuring no one is left behind. These are just a few ways the library is here for all of us. The public has noticed these efforts. Oou library system has received awards for its innovation and service, but it can’t keep making this kind of difference without the funding it needs.
I’ve experienced firsthand how much the Washoe County Library System means to our community and I'm sure it's touched every native Nevadan in the sane way. Let’s make sure it continues to be a place of support, learning, and connection for everyone. Please preserve its funding!
