I'd like to express my support for the funding of a flat budget for the Washoe County Library System for the next fiscal year. Not only do our libraries provide critical services and a third space across Washoe county, the library has had a profound impact on me personally. When I was a new resident in Reno, the South Valleys library was one of the first places I was able to find community - both through the Reno Modern Quilters who hold monthly meetings in one of the rooms available to the community, and through the Liner Notes book club which was led by a SV librarian - Teree Yount.
Additionally, as a person with a cognitive disability that makes it difficult to read print media, having access to a wide variety of audiobooks (which are often quite expensive) has been critical in allowing me (and so many others) to be able to access a wide variety of books.
Libraries are a critical piece of infrastructure in every city, and I hope the board will allocate the necessary budget for the next fiscal year that will allow WCLS to continue and expand the services they provide to our community.
