I support item 7.A.3 and ask that you adopt Resolution R25-44, to initiate proceedings pertaining to formation of a Park District. This will enable better regional management of the Truckee River, which currently spans several jurisdictional boundaries and lacks cohesive planning. The Truckee River is such an important resource for our area for drinking water, recreational opportunities and sense of place, and it is time that we formed a Park District to better enable jurisdictions to cooperatively manage and raise funds for the management of the river corridor.
I support item 7.A.3. I think we should investigate a Parks District, as it sounds like it would be good for pretty much everyone--residents, commuters, recreate-ers, tourists, etc. Probably would be good for the plants and animals of the river, too. Approving this contract for a plan seems like a wise use of a small amount of money now to ensure a much larger amount of useful funding later. Please, let's do this!
Honorable Commissioners; I am a Washoe County resident and have lived and worked here off and on in the Truckee Meadows since 1980. I am in full support of Item 7.A.3 and applaud the Commissioners for moving forward now on this initiative that is likely to have a lasting, positive impact on the livability, economic vitality and the environmental health of the Truckee Meadows. Completion of this comprehensive Service Plan, working with our valued regional partners will demonstrate a strong commitment to we citizens that you value our parks, open spaces, trails, cultural heritage sites and the jewel of our region-The Truckee River. This Plan will outline the financial feasibility and alternatives, cost to maintain, staff, and grow our regional park system to support the demands, now and into the future. Thank you for making this initiative a priority for our region-please approve this motion unanimously to show unity in making our Regional Parks and Open Spaces the best they can be. Regards-Julee Conway, MBA, CPRP
I support 7.A.3, a key part in securing healthy parks and recreation spaces for all of the Truckee Meadows. A parks district is a necessary step in ensuring the health of the river despite its many jurisdictional boundaries and in securing funding for our many beautiful recreational and environmental spaces through the area.
I support adoption of 7.A.3 for the development of a Service Plan to investigate the feasibility of a regional Park District. A service plan is required to move a park district forward. Park districts are valuable tools used to ensure funding goes to river corridors, open space, parks, and recreation facilities for maintenance, improvements, and protection.
