9. Recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners acknowledge receipt of the Registrar of Voters' selection of Early Voting and Election Day polling locations and schedule for the 2026 Primary Election, pursuant to NRS 293.3561(2)(b). Voters. (All Commission Districts.) FOR POSSIBLE ACTION
Unmonitored drop boxes are a danger to fair and honest elections and should not be approved for any NV election. This plan for 3 unmonitored drop boxes is yet another attempt to endanger fair elections.
Nevada law allows drop boxes but ties their use and availability to staffed polling places or clerk offices during open hours, with strict construction, locking, and retrieval requirements.
Fully unmonitored (e.g., 24/7 unattended boxes with no video, staffing, or daily collection) dropboxes ARE NOT AUTHORIZED UNDER CURRENT STATUTE and would conflict with the "open hours" limitation, chain-of-custody rules, and county practices.
Since when is it okay to ignore state statutes? Is this how the Registrar of Voters protects our elections?
The DOJ needs to spend a good amount of time in Washoe County reminding county employees and some commissioners that NO ONE is above the law.
