I am in full support of a new softball complex! I live in the neighborhood and know Carson and Sparks have softball fields and am happy to see these ones in S Reno. I coach softball at WLL and am on the board. I know our community needs this more than ever. These girls need this! The program is growing and there is a need! Let's GO!!!!
I am in full support of approving this item and awarding the bid. As a mom of 3 daughters who all play softball at Washoe Little League, these fields are so important to our community. Our softball league has grown exponentially over the past few years and the girls have to play wherever there is space. We want this park to be developed to its full potential and provide wonderful memories for our kids and kids who play other sports as well. This will be an amazing addition to our community and create a place for our girls to feel included.
Born and raised in Reno, NV and happy to have called Reno my home for over 50 years. Reno has changed dramatically in recent years, and South Reno is flourishing. I strongly support additional youth fields desperately needed in this area. I've been privileged to coach many of these young girls In the short time Washoe Little League has had a softball program, and the joy and passion they bring to the sport is nothing short of amazing. The program has grown dramatically in the recent years and produced 2024 12U and 10U NV State Softball Champions despite the fact that these girls do not have fields of their own. Instead they practice and play games in any space available, often in subpar conditions that can be dangerous. They just want to play! Please let's give these girls and generations of kids a beautiful place to play that's as amazing as the love they show for the game.
I am in full support of the construction of new fields at the South Valleys Complex. We are proud supporters of Washoe Little League and have been lucky to call it our little league home for so many years. My 2 boys played baseball at Washoe LL and now umpire. My husband has served as a coach and on the board for over 10 years. My daughter started in t-ball at Washoe but then was lucky to be a part of the start-up of Little League Softball at WLL. She loves this sport! This community is strong and backed but volunteers who have spent countless hours working to make these new fields a reality for hundreds of softball girls.
In addition to the support here for softball, it should be noted that the rendering by the developer, Sierra Nevada Construction, also includes 3 flat fields. As our community continues to grow, we are finding more and more need for fields for our youth. Not only is this a vote to support girls' softball, but also youth lacrosse, soccer, and football. The field space is desperately needed for so many. Please vote in favor of Agenda item 9.
I am in full support of a new softball complex! I coached softball in WLL for a brief moment and know our community needs this more than ever. These girls have played on the baseball field long enough. So many community members are read for this. The opportunities this with bring to our program are endless. Let's make it happen!
I am in full support of the county approving the funding and the development of the softball fields at South Valleys Regional Park. As a mother of a current softball player and a former Washoe Little League baseball player, I have witnessed how crucial adequate field space is for the development of these young athletes. Expanding facilities not only provides more opportunities for kids to practice and play but also helps foster community spirit and gives families a place to come together and support their children’s sports endeavors.
I wholeheartedly support and hope that you APPROVE this #9 agenda item, including the the bid to Sierra Nevada Construction. We have a 11 year old daughter who plays softball and, from our experience, there are not enough softball fields nearby. We encourage the approval since it will further enhance our community and allocate funds to getting kids outdoor and active. Thank you for your approval.
I am a father of two young athletes in Washoe County, including my daughter who plays softball for Washoe Little League. I am writing to express my strong support for Agenda Item 9 and the approval of the bid to build new softball fields at South Valley Regional Park.
As a father, it’s important to me that my daughter has the same opportunities as my son to play and grow in a supportive and well-equipped environment. Unfortunately, the lack of quality facilities for girls’ sports sends the wrong message about their value in our community. These new fields will show our daughters that their efforts and passions matter just as much as anyone else’s. Approving this project ensures the $2 million in ARPA funds are put to good use, creating safe and lasting spaces for youth sports in Washoe County.
Thank you for your time and for supporting our kids’ futures.
Writing to express my support for the approval of the proposed softball fields. As a parent of a daughter who has played the league, I’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible opportunities these fields would provide for young athletes. Our 2024 All Star team’s remarkable success in the west regionals last season is just one example of the talent and dedication these young women bring to the sport. Investing in this field is not only an investment in our communities athletics, but also a statement about the importance of fostering, the growth of female sports at a critical time. The approval of these fields will have a long lasting impact, not just on the individual players themselves, but also in the community as a whole. Thank you.
After coming here in 2003 from Oregon to play basketball at the University, we loved this community and decided to plant our roots
here for our family. I have witnessed the lack of growth made for our youth and beyond in our park spaces. I currently have three kids who would currently directly benefit with this but I feel this is something with the major growth we have seen in South Reno that our area of Reno is in desperate need of. I have heard this has been on the agenda for a long time and it is something that we need to finally move forward with. Therefore, I am writing to express my support for awarding the bid to kick off the construction of new softball fields at the South Valley Regional Park.
Being a part of the softball/baseball and other sports communities this is something we need. This expansion and construction of new fields for current and future use. It amazes me how hard it is to find space for our youth to participate in outdoor activities. Washoe LL alone as fought hard to find space to be able to make the softball league happen and have put in many hours to make do with what the city has offered to allow them to use, this shouldn't be the case with our parks. I come from Oregon and was very involved in the local Recreation and Parks district of Springfield and they did what they could to provide the community with what they needed. They have so many useful parks and open spaces. We are in desperate need of more availability with our spaces for our community and this is the perfect opportunity to finally make something new happen. Our community has seen so much growth and lets do something that is community based. Let's not waste this opportunity and put our youth first.
We love living in South Reno and it is a rapidly growing community and our parks and open spaces are essential to its vitality. Which is why we need to take this opportunity to do something for the youth/community with these fields and approve this!
Sincerely,

I strongly urge the Commission to approve this award. The interest in girls softball in this area has been proven with the amount of sign ups and the league’s ability to send a team to the regional championships this year. Having a facility dedicated to softball alone can only increase interest and participation in the sport and put girls athletics on an equal par with boys baseball. Our girls deserve the same respect for their hard work and dedication in terms of amenities as the boys do. Washoe needs to build a Softball Field of Dreams for its girls!
As a dedicated member of the Washoe Little League community, a past league President, and a founding member of the softball division, I am writing to express my support for awarding the bid for to kick off the construction of new softball fields at the South Valley Regional Park.
There is an apparent and overwhelming community need for this expansion and construction of new fields. Since we started the Washoe Softball in the fall of 2021, our program has grown over 200%. The girls love the game and want to play! Our biggest challenge has been finding field space for them to play. We have had scrap to find and fight for field space for these girls. It has taken hundreds of hours and creativity from Washoe’s volunteers as well as the support of the entire league to make it work so far. It is clear new fields are needed to ensure the Washoe’s youth softball program has a chance to operate over the long term. By investing in these new fields, we are not just building playing areas; we are cultivating a thriving community that prioritizes the well-being of its youth.
South Reno is a vibrant and rapidly growing community, and our parks and open spaces are essential to its vitality. We have rare opportunity to fulfill the promise of the land donation from Dr. Dorostkar, execute the vision from the SVRP Master Plan, and truly make a generational impact on the community of South Reno.
I implore you to approve this agenda item and invest in our community, our girls, and the generations to come.
Sincerely,
Dan Gallagher

I am a big supporter of approving the South Valleys Regional Park Expansion Project. My son has played in Washoe Little League baseball since he was five years old and my daughter has played in Washoe Little League Softball since its inaugural season, three years ago. I have been coaching their teams all these years and love to see the growth of Washoe Little League. The softball growth has been incredible to be a part of and watch the girls learn to love the game is amazing. It has gone from 80 girls in its first season to almost 300 girls in its third year. Due to this growth we need the expansion to happen to give the girls a place to call home and have there own softball fields. Washoe Little League has been one of the best youth sports organizations in the state. The expansion will allow it to continue that legacy and create a generational impact on the community. I played baseball in the original Washoe Little League when it was just a dirt field off state route 341 (now the Old Stone House Nursery). To see it go from that dirt field to a premier youth sports organization has been amazing. I have had the great honor of being part of all that growth. The youth boys have some of the most beautiful baseball fields in the state. It is now time for the girls to get their fields and create generations of softball players. Thank you for your time and again I am a big supporter of approving the expansion project.
I am a lifelong resident of Reno and as someone who grew up here and participated in sports as a student athlete, I know firsthand the challenges of having limited access to adequate sports facilities. Today, I am a proud parent of a daughter who plays softball for Washoe Little League.
I am writing to express my strong support for Agenda Item 9 and the approval of awarding the bid to Sierra Nevada Construction to build new softball fields at South Valley Regional Park. For far too long, our community has lacked the resources to properly support youth sports, particularly for young girls. This project represents an incredible opportunity to not only address the shortage of fields but to also show our girls that their sports matter. These fields will create a safe and welcoming space for them to play, grow, and develop their skills both on and off the field. The $2 million in ARPA funds approved for this project are a once in a generation chance to invest in our community and our children. Losing these funds means losing the opportunity to make a tangible difference for families like mine.
I urge you to approve this bid. Our girls need and deserve this investment in their future. Let’s ensure that Washoe County continues to be a place where all children have the opportunity to thrive.
I write to strongly encourage the Board to approve the construction of new softball fields at South Valley Regional Park. As both a lifelong player (adult league) and father of two, I know firsthand the value of sports on individual growth. ARPA funding was designed for such community improvements.
I am writing today in support of the award of both recommendations in this agenda item. South Reno is in dire need of field space, specifically softball field space, for public use. To give you an idea of the public need for ball fields in the south; the non-profit, community, little league, organization utilizing this park the most, Washoe Little League, is approximately 25% larger than any other league in town but has access to approximately half the fields the next largest league has. The lack of field space has caused the league to have to waitlist and ultimately turn away kids in the past few years. The fastest growing portion of Washoe Little League is the softball program which has been growing exponentially since it inception 3-4 years ago. The softball program won two state championships this year.
Addition of these three softball fields to the South Reno Sports Complex will provide the girls of south reno much needed space to continue the development of community based softball programs.
Having been part of the league board during the inception of the softball programs, I can tell you gratitude from the softball families was overwhelming. It changed the dynamic of the entire program and introduced and entire new group of children to one of the greatest community "families" I have known.
For the betterment of the children, and especially the young ladies, of south reno, I implore you to approve this agenda item! Investment in open space for our community is imperative during this time of explosive growth.
Our city is expanding, enhancing, and developing, and every part of our cherished community needs to keep pace. It's clear that Reno suffers from a shortage of sports fields for both private and recreational activities, particularly for youth sports. We should strive for better opportunities for our children. "Kids are glued to their screens nowadays, back in my time..."—we've all heard that complaint, and there's truth to it. A significant issue is the lack of dependable recreational facilities that our kids rightfully deserve. The youth in this area desperately need these park and recreation spaces, making the projects outlined in this plan highly anticipated. These developments would significantly benefit them and the entire community. Providing this space could transform the lives of future generations.
I was privileged to have a seat in the meeting 4 years ago when the softball branch of Washoe Little League, was just an idea. I have been the Director and Vice President of Softball since that day. I have watched the league grow from 84 girls our first season to 250 girls this year. I have watched in 3 years our league grow from start up, to Double Nevada State Champions.
I have been part of the pipe dream that these fields represent, and I have had a front row seat to each step of the process to bring these fields to the brink of reality. With everything I hold dear, I swear that the people at Washoe County parks, the City of Reno, and the people of Washoe Little League, have held the highest integrity through every step.
I have 2 daughters in Washoe Little League Softball, have coached dozens of others, and have proudly served as a board member for hundreds more. These fields will bring security and solidarity to thousands and thousands of girls for the next decades.
The group of people who have come together to bring this project to life is nothing short of miraculous. From the land donor with a vision for softball fields, to the private donors with a passion to support the girls and young women of our community, to the group of parents with daughters that formed the WLL softball board and league, and most importantly right now, the county officials who have done the work to bring this proposal to this vote today, everyone has given more than could have ever been asked for.
Please join in this process. Please believe in this dream. Please give these girls the softball home they deserve. Please approve the allocation of these funds as proposed.
Thank you,

The master plan for the South Valleys complex calls for softball fields to be placed.
We, the fathers and mothers, of these girls have done all the right things. We’ve added softball to Washoe Little League, an organization that has provided recreational opportunities for kids in south Washoe County for over 70 years. Softball was added in 2021. Our registration numbers for Softball has exploded; with over 300 girls this past Spring! And it will continue to grow. We need these fields to accommodate this growth. It gives our girls a place to play at our Washoe Little League home.
Many people have worked very hard to help secure these precious funds to break ground on this project. Please help our community by voting to approve the appropriation of these funds.
